Vote for change
Joshua Karris for NYS assembly district 3
"A Grassroots campaign is soley built on the will of its constituent's, with your help we can win, only a few thousand doors and phones calls stand between us and victory"
Join us on our mission to create a campaign that uplifts working-class families in New York. Together, we can make a difference in our communities, as for too long, the political elite have turned their back on us. It is time that we, as New Yorkers, take our power back, and represent one of us, not someone tied to financial interests to line their own pockets, but a true working-class New Yorker.
This is a campaign based on representing the working class, for I have lived through the daily struggles of the working class. I promise to create a pure, grassroots campaign that isn’t funded by the same people making our lives worse; The elite.

My name is Joshua Karris, I’m a 22-year-old working class, political science major out of Suffolk Community College. I’m a progressive, working class American whose interests are for the same people who’ve raised me, and the people who have shaped who I am today; The working class. I am a proud member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), an organization that believes that the politics of today need change, on both sides. For a long time now, I’ve believed that the Democratic Party hasn’t done enough for the working class, and I fully believe it’s time for a change in the democratic party, which is the sole purpose of this campaign. As a political candidate, I will work with like-minded New Yorkers who also believe in the future of the working class, people who will never bow down to corporate interests.
Like many of you, the cost-of-living crisis has affected my day-to-day life. Even though I work full-time, I have never been able to get ahead. This struggle has shaped my morals, and political beliefs. It’s about time we have someone who has faced the same struggles as millions of New Yorkers to represent us here in the 3rd district
A working class story...

Affordability crisis
Long island is one of the most expensive suburbs in the country and our feckless republican leadership has let our young families leave in droves for too long, its long past due to bring universal childcare to New York and Save families between 9,000 - 12,000 yearly on child expenses
Increasing Low-Income housing across the state will allow low-income families to stay here instead of being priced out by greedy landlords, we will do this by investing on a state-level and removing zoning barriers to increase the housing supply.
According to research it would take a minimum wage of 34 dollars an hour to afford a two-bedroom in New York, our current minimum wage is unsustainable that why I propose an increase to a 22$ minimum wage to let the working class that built our community stay here.
Fast and Free public busing will allow people to get to and from work without breaking the bank, thousands of people in this district get by without a vehicle, it's about time we have someone in the assembly who will fight for them.
About me...
I’ve worked with the local and state government to give the deaf community a voice, by instituting American Sign Language classes in every New York High School. Not only does it represent, and make deaf New Yorkers fit in, and feel welcome, it also allows hearing New Yorkers to communicate, and learn more about deaf people, in order to remove these language barriers that make it hard for the deaf to fit in.
For me, my interest in politics started at a young age. Taking political science in college gave a deep understanding of how our political systems work, and allowed me to understand the ways in which I can change it.
I’m not a part of the rich, the elite, or even the upper class, I’m a working class New Yorker who wants to be a member of our government, which is rare, but allows me to understand what will directly hurt, or help the average New Yorker.
